Farmers Trying To Plant In Northwest Iowa Hampered By Excessive Moisture

Excessive moisture this spring has been keeping many Northwest Iowa farmers out of the fields with their planting work. Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Joel DeJong says the northern part of northwest Iowa is in the wettest and the furthest behind.

He says the planting window is getting narrower especially for corn.

De Jong says some producers can still get the corn in if they can go this week.

De Jong recommends farmers take a look at spreadsheets from either Iowa State University or the University of Illinois and determine what planting options look the best and make the most economic sense.
