Farmers Question Coverage as Affordable Care Act Declared Unconstitutional

A federal court judge in Fort Worth, Texas has declared the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional. Center for Rural Affairs Policy Manager Jordan Rasmussen says that raises initial concerns. However, farmers and ranchers with insurance under the plan will remain covered while the litigation moves forward.

She says getting affordable health insurance for farmers and ranchers has been a challenge and the Affordable Care Act has been positive for them because it provides coverage to many who couldn’t get it before.

Rasmussen says the Center for Rural Affairs continues to back the ACA and supports any appeal to keep it from being dismantled.

Rasmussen says it doesn’t make sense to throw out the Affordable Care Act without a replacement for it.
