Farmers Need Help Complying with New Food Safety Rules

National Farmers Union leaders are thanking a group of 14 members of Congress who have written FDA asking them to help farmers comply with new Food Safety and Modernization Act rules. NFU President Roger Johnsons says the rules are confusing and producers need the proper technical assistance, training and guidance to deal with the regulation.

Johnson says lawmakers are asking FDA regulators to detail how farmers comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act.

Johnson says the regulation is particularly confusing for those producers who do direct marketing, or grow fruits and vegetables, as well as organic producers.
