Farmers may now enroll in farm bill safety net programs for 2017. The enrollment period runs until August of next year. Nebraska Farm Service Agency State Executive Director Dan Steinkruger says his staff is ready to go with the signup for base acres in both the Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs.

He encourages farmers to make an appointment as that makes the enrollment process run more smoothly.

Steinkruger says last month, FSA sent out more than $7 billion nationally in ARC and PLC payments for the 2015 crop to help farmers who suffered price and revenue losses.

Steinkruger reminds producers they must sign-up each year to be eligible for the farm safety net payments.
