Farmers for Free Trade has released a report showing the initial impact tariffs from China have had on U.S. farmers. Group spokesman Matt McAlvanah says there are several ag products effected.
He says the negative impact on pork alone is quite significant.
McAlvanah says the next round of tariffs due in June will hit soybeans.
McAlvanah says the tariffs incentivize China to look at other markets for their imports. He says that means trading relationships that took decades to develop can evaporate overnight. And once an export market has been lost, it doesn’t come back immediately.
