This year’s drought conditions in northeast South Dakota are forcing many farmers to chop their corn for silage. SDSU Extension Agronomist David Karki says the driest conditions are north of Watertown and extend as far as Roberts County.
He says conditions were dry in May and June according to data compiled at their SDSU reporting station near Watertown.
Karki says before growers chop their corn for silage they should check with their crop insurance agent.
Karki says for those growers who have harvested small grains, if there’s depleted moisture, they should hold off on any cover crops.
