The Farmers Co-op Society of Sioux Center is still working to contain a fire at their large flat storage unit, where a pile of corn spontaneously combusted Monday evening. With more than 2.5 million bushels of corn to move, Operations Manager of the Eastern Division, Jeff Holtz says crews are busy.
Holtz says it will take several days to move all the corn needed to put the fire out at the center. He says Farmers Co-op is optimistic, however, about recovering from the loss.
Holtz is unsure of just how much corn will be lost due to the fire or how much financial burden that will put on the Co-op.
