Despite the trade war and low commodity prices, America’s farmers are starting to see small victories with soybean sales resuming to China, the passage of a new farm bill and now even a possibility of the Chinese purchasing U.S. corn. That’s according to Farmers Business Network Chief Economist Kevin McNew, who spoke at last week’s Farmer to Farmer Conference in Omaha.

He says after buying U.S. soybeans, the Chinese are expressing interest in purchasing corn as well.

McNew says now as producers have certainty with the passage of the five-year farm bill, they can begin planning for spring field work. He expects more acres in the Northern Plains being shifted to spring wheat in 2019.

McNew says ultimately each farmer has to look at his own situation and see what cropping scheme works for him and it’s always a challenge.
