Southwest Minnesota farmers are being advised to scout for pests like army worms and corn borer. University of Minnesota Extension Integrated Pest Management Specialist Bruce Potter says army worm pressure is likely in both the small grains and corn.
He says army worms were fairly prevalent last year and so populations could re-emerge and cause a lot of crop damage.
Potter says now is also a good time to scout for corn borers especially in conventional or non-biotech corn fields.
Potter says a single corn borer per plant can cause 6 to 7 percent yield loss.
