Farm state senators have filed comments with EPA on blasting their Renewable Fuels Standard proposal. They called for EPA Chief Andrew Wheeler to honor the President’s commitment and make sure the RFS volume levels for ethanol are set at 15 billion gallons. South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds also met with the President and asked him to follow through on that commitment. South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Doug Noem says that’s encouraging.
He says the combined support from farm state Senators on the RFS issue will help the corn and biofuels industries push their case.
Noem says now farmers need to contact their lawmakers and the administration about the importance of the RFS and making sure the lost biofuel volumes are accounted for.
The Senators in their comments to the EPA also expressed concerns about the way the agency plans to calculate the reallocation of biofuels gallons lost due to the Small Refinery Exemptions granted to the oil refineries.
