Producers have until February 28 to enroll in the general sign up of the Conservation Reserve Program at county Farm Service Agency offices. South Dakota FSA CRP Coordinator Owen Fagerhaug says there are two options for enrollment, either through the general sign up or through their continuous program.

The 2018 Farm Bill allows for 27 million acres of CRP to be granted nationally during the life of the farm bill. Despite less acres now available than the 27 million , Fagerhaug says there’s still plenty of opportunity for those interested in CRP.

He says under the General CRP, it is a competitive bid sign up.

He says because FSA offices are busy with several programs right now including WHIP and ARC-PLC, it’s important those wanting to enroll in CRP call their county FSA office and make an appointment.
