Farm Safety Reminder With Tight Planting Window

Farm Safety Reminder With Tight Planting Window

It’s crunch time for Northern Plains farmers trying to take advantage of this week’s planting window, amidst a late planting season and more moisture returning to the region. Iowa State University Extension Ag Engineer Shawn Shouse says its critical producers still keep safety in mind when in the field.

He recommends farmers get proper rest and take frequent breaks, even if they are brief.

Shouse says even though much of the new machinery has built in safety features, farmers should not let this lull them into complacency.

He says farms should all have an emergency response plan in place in case an accident occurs.

And Shouse says that emergency response plan should be reviewed every spring.
