Farm Safety Expert Says Be Aware During Safety Week

This week is National Farm Safety and Health Week and the primary advice from one expert is to be aware and know where you’re at. Dave Schweitz is Executive Director of Farm Safety for just kids. He says with the record harvest farmers are dealing with this year there will be more farm machinery on the roads so drivers need to be alert to that.
Schweitz says another major area of concern lately has been grain bin safety. He says its critical if you’re going into a grain bin that you let someone know where you are or have someone with you.
He says although farm rescue responders have new and better equipment, time of response is still a very critical factor when it comes to grain entrapment.
Schweitz also says to be careful if you’re using older equipment because it likely doesn’t have all the safety features that the newer machines have.
