The signup deadline for the farm program for 2016 is August 1. Farmers that elected to participate in either the PLC or ARC Program need to complete their annual paperwork at their county Farm Service Agency office by the end of the month. South Dakota FSA Executive Director Craig Schaunaman says less than 10-percent of farmers in the state are left to sign up.

He reminds producers that even though they enrolled in the program for five years, they still need to sign up every year.

Schaunaman says some livestock producers are also coming in to file claims for the Livestock Indemnity Program with some death losses reported associated with last week’s heat.

He says losses need to be above the normal mortality for their operation for the LIP payment to kick in. Each species has a different payment rate, but for turkey’s the indemnity is $15.88 per bird.

August 1 is also the deadline to make nominations for county committees.
