The White House is threatening to veto a House measure that would make permanent the Section 179 expensing allowance that is used by producers to buy agricultural equipment. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott Vanderwal says it’s important they make that deduction permanent as its part of real tax reform and vetoing it would result in raising taxes.
Vanderwal says Section 179 is very critical for the economic well being of farmers and ranchers.
Vanderwal says while it’s often difficult to get a two thirds majority to be able to override a Presidential veto is fairly optimistic it can be achieved.
The House is expected to vote on this measure before the end of the week.
