Farm Official Wants To See Ag Immigration Bill Passed

This week the House passed an immigration measure that gives a pathway to citizenship for dreamers or young immigrants. Nebraska Republican Congressman Don Bacon voted for the bill that passed along party lines with most Democrats voting for it. Nebraska Farm Bureau Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux is hoping now lawmakers will turn their attention to passing an ag immigration bill.

Whether or not the passage of the dreamers legislation will lead to an ag immigration measure is questionable according to Dux., although he remains hopeful.

He says the problem with the present immigration system is that it ends up blaming ag operators if the proper paperwork isn’t in place to ensure immigrant workers are legal. Dux says that’s presently out of their control.

Dux says finding a solution to the immigration worker problem is a long term issue that’s a very delicate one politically.
