Tuesday, South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard gave his budget address. South Dakota Farmers Union’s Legislative Director Matt Sibley called the speech uneventful, un surprising with nothing too positive or negative. He says one disappointment is that the Governor called for status quo spending on education.’
He says one of his group’s main concern is the need for more funding for infrastructure needs, especially at the county and township levels.
Sibley says while the state’s roads are in fairly good shape, the county and township roads and bridges keep deteriorating and need marked improvement. He says that’ll be a top discussion during January’s legislative session in Pierre.
Sibley says no one likes to pay taxes but when it comes to roads and bridges, the question that needs to be answered is what’s the fairest way to pay for that needed upkeep.
