Tuesday, Surface Transportation Board Staff along with Farmers Union Presidents from South Dakota, Nebraska and Minnesota met with other ag officials to talk about rail car shortages and back logs. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says back logs are still occurring and a solution is needed. He says they’ll be asking for an S-T-B hearing on that problem.
Sombke says those shipping ag commodities and ethanol are afraid if they report rail car shortages or slow down of service they’ll be retaliated against by the railroads.
Sombke says there will be another meeting held by the Surface Transportation Board May 14 in St. Paul, Minnesota to further discuss the rail issues.
