North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple has called the legislature into special session to address a two-year budget shortfall of around $300 million. Much of that is due to the loss of oil and gas revenue. North Dakota Farm Bureau President Darryl Lies says the downturn in the ag economy has also put pressure on state coffers.
He’s not sure what the impact to agriculture will be from the budget shortfall.
Lies says there are several things needed to help turn the ag economy around, including enhanced trade and better demand for ag commodities.
The special session begins August 2 and will run for three days.
