This week the Senate Ag Committee held a hearing looking at school lunch nutrition standards. Ag Chair Debbie Stabenow says a recent study found 70 percent of elementary school teachers nationwide reporting students like the healthier school lunches implemented in the fall of 2012. Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill says he’s seen evidence to the contrary.
Hill says he sees much of the so called healthier food being thrown away rather than consumed.
Hill says decisions on school lunches need to be made at the local level rather than by the federal government mandating standards.
