Farm Leader Says Federal Case Moving Slowly On Corporate Ownership Issue

The two major farm groups in North Dakota are on opposite sides as it relates to the state’s corporate ban on ag ownership. This week the North Dakota Farmers Union filed to intervene in the federal court case sought by the North Dakota Farm Bureau to get the feds to declare the state ban unconstitutional and discriminatory. North Dakota Farm Bureau President Daryl Lies says the legal process is dragging on with not much movement lately.

He says they’re still trying to determine what effect the recent action by the North Dakota Farmers Union to ask to intervene in the case will have on the whole issue.

Lies says if the Federal Court rules in their favor to allow corporate ownership of pork and dairy operations it won’t hurt family farms.

Lies says his group is seeking equal opportunity for all farming and ranching operations with their lawsuit.
