This week, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton pocket vetoed the $ 260 million tax relief bill. That means he took no action on the legislation letting it die. State Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap was disappointed at the decision by the Governor as that measure contained $ 90 million for tax relief for agriculture. He says it also contained several other important provisions.
He says even though the tax bill was vetoed, a special session will still need to be held to deal with unfinished business.
Paap says farmers and ranchers are under a lot of pressure with the downturn in the ag economy, the lack of a tax relief measure being passed and what’s also concerning is the lack of passage of a needed transportation bill.
Governor Dayton and lawmakers are battling over spending issues and a resolution that’s needed that would lead to a special session.
