The South Dakota House this week approved HB 1038 and sent it over to the Senate. It repeals the requirement for farm corporations to file a report with the Secretary of State’s office. While the State Farm Bureau backs the measure, South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke has concerns with the repeal measure brought forward by Secretary of State Shantel Krebs.

He says he understands why there’s a push for elimination of duplication of requirements.

Sombke says another concern with HB 1038 is the lack of transparency with the measure.

The Farm Bureau argued that by passing HB 1038, it would lessen the paperwork and cost by requiring just a single report.
