A petition submitted to President Obama from a coalition of Northeast state members is asking him to veto the biotech labeling bill that was approved earlier this summer. The group has gathered 100,000 signatures. That is somewhat of a concern to South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal. He’s hoping the President will stand by his earlier support for the measure and not veto it.
He’s not surprised the request for the veto comes from Northeast states where the national anti biotech labeling movement began.
VanderWal says if the measure would get vetoed he’s hoping there’d be enough votes to override.
Their is no indication when the President might act on the biotech labeling legislation that passed in early July.
