Today the Senate Finance Committee is expected to hold a confirmation hearing for U.S. Trade Representative nominee Robert Lighthizer. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal is hoping they’ll proceed with that, as well as confirm Sonny Perdue as Agriculture Secretary.

He thinks the Finance Committee should be able to overcome some Democrat’s objections and get Lighthizer approved and sent to the full Senate for confirmation.

VanderWal is also hoping both political parties will come together and approve Neil Gorsuch as a Supreme Court Justice.

VanderWal says that it’s unlikely the full Senate will confirm Gorsuch this week but thinks getting the nomination sent forward would at least be positive.
