This week the Senate Agriculture Committee gave overwhelming approval to reauthorization of the child nutrition legislation.  American Farm Bureau Vice President and Volga, South Dakota farmer Scott Vanderwal is pleased with the measure.  He says the changes made to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act are beneficial for school children and give them better food choices.

Vanderwal says the fact the full Ag Committee supported the measure should help its chance of passage in the full Senate.

Other farm groups including the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives also support the measure.  NCFC President and CEO Chuck Connor says the legislation gives school districts greater flexibility and empowers them to provide healthy food to their students.
