Farm groups, including the National Pork Producers Council, are expressing concerned about possible retaliation against agricultural products by U.S. trading partners, following President Donald Trump’s announced import tariffs on steel and aluminum. NPPC’s Dave Warner says U.S. agriculture is vulnerable in any type of trade war.
He says given the present state of the U.S. ag economy, farmers and ranchers will be hurt by any trade retaliation. That will trickle down to the overall economy.
Warner says the U.S. pork industry is deeply dependent on exports and that makes trade disruptions even more concerning.
Warner says NPPC has joined a coalition of agriculture and industry groups opposing the tariffs as part of the Alliance for Competitive Steel and Aluminum Trade.
