Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue has announced that the Economic Research Service and National Institute of Food and Agriculture offices are being moved from Washington D.C. to the Kansas City region. Perdue says there will be considerable taxpayer savings with the move. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says most ag groups opposed the relocation and they hope Congress steps in to stop the move.
He says the decision wasn’t generated by an effort to save money, it was political.
Hansen says there are many in Congress who don’t support the relocation either, but its uncertain if they will take action.
The Missouri Farm Bureau hailed the move. Their President Blake Hurst says Kansas City is the heart of the farm economy and is deservedly the right choice for USDA.
