The Minnesota Milk Producers Association and six other state farm groups have filed a court petition against the State Pollution Control Agency to follow the 30-day comment period rule. Milk Producers Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom says the MPCA extended the public comment period on Daley Dairy Farm of Lewiston, to November 15 from the original deadline of October 31. He says they want to determine if the agency has the authority to do that.

He says there’s quite a bit of backing for the dairy operation but the real issue is can the comment period be extended.

Sjostrom says the ag groups are seeking clarity on comment periods.

Daley farms wants to expand their current herd of 1,728 cows and calves to 4,628. The expansion involves a confinement barn of 3,000 dairy cows, a rotary milking parlor, a manure storage basin, a feed storage pad and stormwater runoff controls.
