Monday, the Iowa Legislature begins the 2017 session. Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill says they will be working with lawmakers on approval of state funding for dedicated programs to invest in water quality improvements.
Hill says funding assistance is needed for things like biofilters, buffers and creating wetlands. He says state lawmakers also need to make the Section 179 tax deduction allowed at the federal level, permanent at the state level.
He says legislators also need to equalize what urban and rural residents pay for mental health services. He says currently rural residents are picking up most of those costs.
Hill says they also want to see the state fully fund property tax credits.
