The 2015 fiscal year appropriations bill passed by the House last week isn’t sitting well with some ag groups because of added provisions. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says the most disappointing one is the defunding of the Dodd Frank Legislation that regulates commodity markets and traders.
He says some measures were put in that don’t have anything to do with budget matters.
Sombke was particularly unhappy that the budget legislation contained a section that calls for the Ag Secretary to bring Country of Origin Labeling into compliance with the WTO. He says one large cattle group lobbied hard for that.
Sombke also didn’t like the provision that directs the Ag Secretary to withdraw his second beef check off proposal.
