The Minnesota Farmers Union shared their legislative goals with State lawmakers this week during a virtual House Agriculture Committee meeting. MFU Government Relations Director Stu Lourey says their top priority is having state lawmakers address the high cost of health care for farmers and ranchers.

He says because state legislators will be crafting a two year budget this year for 2022 and 2023, they want to make sure the Minnesota Agriculture Department is properly funded to meet the needs of the state’s producers.

Lourey says another one of their primary legislative goals is to expand the opportunities for small meat processors.

Lourey says their members also want legislators to fund broadband and make it more accessible for rural Minnesotans.
