Late last week the U.S. House approved an amended HEROES Act as a coronavirus aid package. The total cost is $2.2 trillion and was approved on a 214 to 207 vote. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says the measure provides some help for agriculture which is struggling economically due to the pandemic and prior low commodity prices.

He says the amended House Bill while providing some help doesn’t meet all the needs caused by the pandemic’s destruction of the ag economy

Hansen thinks the House legislation is a positive measure and that it’s now up the Senate to follow through and get the needed stimulus help out.

The amended HEROES Act includes many priorities outlined by the National Farmers Union including support for local and regional meat processing, farm stress programs as well as nutrition assistance.
