Thursday, Minnesota U.S. Senator Al Franken resigned amidst alleged sexual harassment impropriates. Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton is expected to appoint a replacement within the next few days. State Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap says whoever the Governor names needs to understand and support agriculture.
One of those rumored to be chosen by Dayton is his Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith. Paap thinks that would be a good pick.
Paap says the Senate post is important for agriculture and has a lot of influence on issues impacting farmers and ranchers.
Whoever Dayton names will serve until a new Senator is elected in November of 2018. Possible Republican candidates rumored for that run include former Governor Tim Pawlenty and former Senator Norm Coleman.
