Two of those on the short list for the head job at the Environmental Protection Agency will be positive for agriculture. That’s according to South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal who says Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt and Kathleen Hartnett White of Texas would be good for farmers and ranchers mainly because of their opposition to the Waters of the U.S. rule.
He’s hoping whoever takes over at the EPA will work with President Trump and the new Congress to overturn WOTUS despite what decision may come from the courts where that issue is being heard.
VanderWal says he thinks either Pruitt or Hartnett White would bring a more reasonable approach to any agency decisions that may impact agriculture.
Pruitt was one of the first state attorneys general to file suit against the EPA over WOTUS and Hartnett White calls WOTUS a power grab. She previously headed the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
