The Senate has yet to send its version of the farm bill over to the Conference Committee or even name their conferees. That’s concerning to some farm groups. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal says it’s a little concerning but he thinks they still have time to pass the new farm bill before the current one expires the end of September.
He says its critical federal lawmakers pass the new farm bill to give farmers and ranchers and their lenders some needed certainty.
VanderWal says there’s a lot of difference between the House and Senate farm bills that have to be ironed out.
VanderWal says his group likes the way the House handles wetlands and has concern with the Senate farm bill’s calling for mapping of wetlands.
