Despite recent contention, Farm Bill conferees may be getting closer to an agreement on a final measure. Minnesota Farmers Union President Gary Wertish says that’s what his group heard from House Ag Ranking member Collin Peterson who spoke with them at their Annual Convention over the weekend.

He says the two major concerns for farmers and rancher now is getting the farm bill done and a resolution to the trade war with China. Wertish says while there’s a few minor snags yet in the farm bill, the hope is it’ll move during the lame duck session.

Wertish says Congressman Peterson also told his group that House Ag Chairman Mike Conaway is starting to see he’ll have to come to some compromise in order to get the farm bill over the finish line.

Wertish adds that Congressman Peterson assured Farmers Union members that he’ll work hard to get the farm bill done during the lame duck and if it doesn’t get done then he’ll push for it in January when he become House Ag Committee Chairman.
