Farm Group President Says Agriculture Needs Help In Next Stimulus Bill

Congress is trying to come up with another economic stimulus bill to help those who’ve been damaged by the pandemic. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says there are two sections of agriculture left out in the previous pandemic relief measures that need help this time around. He says that includes some livestock producers as well as ethanol plants.

He says the other major economic woe facing farmers and ranchers are depressed commodity prices which is putting producers and lenders on edge.

Sombke says what’s really difficult is that many farmers and ranchers are going through their savings and income from other jobs just to keep operating.

Senators are looking at including an additional $ 20 billion in commodity credit corporation funds for the next pandemic relief bill which would be added to $14 billion already authorized in recent relief that’s not yet been used.
