Minnesota state lawmakers adjourned their regular session this week and then proceeded into special session. Legislators and the Governor worked out several compromises that were beneficial for agriculture. Minnesota Farmers Union’s Government Relations Director Thom Petersen says one win was the tax bill they agreed to which will help farmers and ranchers.

He says the Governor and legislature were able to come together on infrastructure legislation that will help rural Minnesota.

Petersen says one of the major victories for farmers was the agreement reached with the Governor on delay of the buffer law implementation. He says while they wanted a one year delay they did get an 8 month reprieve.

Petersen says two other ag victories were loan forgiveness programs put in to help veterinarians who work on large animals and for agricultural educators.
