One of the initial executive orders issued by President Joe Biden this week is for the U.S. to rejoin the Paris Climate talks. The President’s focus is definitely on addressing climate change and that’s some thing the South Dakota Farmers Union is also interested in. President Doug Sombke says being involved in the Paris accord is important in order to work for whatever betters the climate globally.

He expects President Biden to address the SAFE or Safer Affordable Fuel Efficiency Vehicle Rule. Sombke says that rule fails to account for toxic pollution from aromatic laden fuel and ignores the important role ethanol can play in improving fuel efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Sombke says besides addressing climate change, his group wants President Biden to tackle other concerns like the Marketing Concentration problem in Agriculture.

Sombke says Farmers Union members intend to stay engaged with the Biden administration on all of these issues going forward.
