This week Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt issued a directive discontinuing the so called “Sue and Settle” policy at the agency. Under the Obama administration, the EPA would increase its regulatory reach under pressure from environmental activist groups who would threaten to sue the EPA unless those regulations were enacted. Nebraska Farm Bureau National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux says Pruitt’s directive will be beneficial for agriculture.
He says ‘’Sue and Settle” doesn’t follow Congressional intent and gives the agency too much authority.
Dux says the directive represents a great policy shift under the Trump administration and is welcome by farmers and ranchers who have faced federal regulatory burdens over the past eight years.
Since 2009, there were 137 new regulations issued at EPA under the Clean Air Act.
