With the 2020 election now history, Minnesota Farmers Union members are focusing on ag policy for the incoming Presidential Administration and new members of Congress. Minnesota Farmers Union President Gary Wertish says the top ag issue is the needed recovery of the economy from the pandemic.
He says one of the other major goals is making sure trade is ironed out with our export customers and a more reasonable approach to those negotiations is utilized differing from the past turbulent trade environment.
Wertish says another ag issue that needs to be solved is the needed discontinuance of the granting of small refiner waivers from the RFS.
Wertish says one of the biggest challenges for farmers and ranchers will be the next writing of the new farm bill. He says that’s because there will be new leadership on the Congressional Ag Committees with Collin Peterson leaving as House Ag Chair and Pat Roberts retiring as Senate Ag Chairman. Peterson was defeated in his re-election bid and Roberts chose not to run, retiring from the Senate.
