Minnesota Farmers Union members are at the State Capital in St. Paul today lobbying legislators, and meeting with the State Ag Commissioner and other officials. Farmers Union’s Director of Government Relations Thom Petersen says they’ve already made headway on many of their legislative priorities this year including repeal of some taxes negatively effecting producers.
Petersen says another priority issue for their group’s members they’re still trying to achieve is property tax relief.
Petersen says property tax rates have been a big burden for many of the state’s farmers and ranchers. He says some counties have seen as high as a 27 percent increase in property taxes.
