Trade Promotion Authority for the President will automatically renew at the end of this month due to no Congressional action. Unless Congress passes a resolution of disapproval, the Authority will renew for another three years. The South Dakota Farmers Union has policy opposing TPA. And President Doug Sombke says that authority is even more concerning given the Presidents enacting of tariffs that’s led to a trade war.
He says America’s farmers are already feeling the negative impacts of the trade tariffs that has trickled down to the price of agricultural equipment.
Sombke says the administration keeps promising farmers will be protected from the effects of the trade war but he hasn’t seen anything yet.
Sombke says while he’d like to see Congress issue a resolution of disapproval on TPA, he doesn’t see it happening. He says they’ve failed so far to stand up to the President.
