House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway says work on the 2018 Farm Bill will start within the next eight weeks. He wants to get the measure to the House Floor yet this year. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says he agrees with that. He says his group’s main priority with the new farm legislation is a strong crop insurance program that can possibly be expanded.
He says timely passage of the farm bill is needed especially given the depressed state of the agricultural economy.
Nelson says his group would also like to see some adjustments in the farm bill made to the ARC and PLC programs.
Not only is Conaway interested in writing the farm bill this year so is Senate Ag Committee Chairman Pat Roberts.
