South Korea has created a special response team and requested to be excluded from proposed higher import tariffs on steel under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act. The Foreign Ministry is emphasizing the negative effect the measures would have on bilateral relations. Nebraska Cattlemen Association Executive Director Pete McClymont says they’re concerned about a possible trade war with South Korea that will derail the current renegotiation of KORUS.
McClymont says South Korea represents the fifth largest agricultural export market for the U.S. and it’s an extremely important destination for U.S. beef.
He says the U.S. must maintain its export markets around the world.
