South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson is co-sponsoring the Ocean Shipping Reform Act legislation that was introduced this week in the House. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal says his group backs the measure. He says it’s a positive measure that makes shipping more efficient.

He says there have been several delays recently with getting needed U.S. exports out to foreign markets and this bill would help correct those.

VanderWal says whatever path it takes, whether it be the House measure getting over to the Senate for consideration or having a companion bill introduced in the Senate, whatever it takes should be done to get it over the finish line.

The Ocean Shipping Reform Act is the first major update of federal regulations for the global ocean shipping industry since 1998.
