The American Farm Bureau Federation’s 30th. annual price survey found the average cost of Thanksgiving Day dinner is up slightly this year. To feed a family of 10 the cost is $ 50.11, a 70 cent increase from last year’s average. The big ticket item, a 16 pound turkey came in at $ 23.00, an increase of $ 1.39 over 2014. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott Vanderwal says that isn’t a surprise with the production problems earlier this year due to bird flu.

He says overall the price increase is modest and at only $ 5 per serving, consumers still have much to be thankful for this holiday.

The Farm Bureau survey includes 16 staples for Thanksgiving including bread stuffing, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Foods showing the largest increases this year in addition to turkey were pumpkin pie mix and rolls, while the items that declined included milk, whipping cream and cranberries.
