The cost of Thanksgiving Dinner is down for the third straight year. The American Farm Bureau Federation’s 33rd annual survey of items found on the Thanksgiving Day dinner table showed the average cost of this year’s feast for 10 is $48.90. That is less than $5.00 per person and 22-cents below 2017. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal says that is great news for consumers.
American Farm Bureau Executive Vice President Dale Moore says the low cost of the Thanksgiving meal is no surprise to farmers.
Since 2015 the average cost of Thanksgiving dinner has decline steadily and is now at the lowest level since 2010. And Moore says with these low food prices consumers have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
The turkey cost slightly less than last year at $21.71 for a 16-pound bird, that’s down 3-percent and is the lowest level since 2014.
