The Nebraska Unicameral begins its 60 day legislative session today. The State Farm Bureau has three major priority issues they want to see headway on this year. Vice President of Government Relations Jay (rem-pee) Rempe says two of those include getting Senators to pass property tax relief and make some changes on weight limits for ag equipment.
He says their third priority is to convince lawmakers to allow packers to own livestock which is a holdover issue from last year.
Rempe says his group has some suggestions to how to deal with the complex issue of property taxes and provide that needed relief for farmers and ranchers.
Rempe says their long term goal is try and convince Senators to limit the valuation in school districts to 40 percent. He says they’ll continue to work on that this session.
